I’m just coming back down to earth after winning the ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ Guest Accommodation of the Year for 2009. I’m so proud to win this prestigious award as a Yorkshire girl born and bred its a great honour. It was a total surprise to win as this was the first time I had entered at the insistence of my daughter Tor who is studying Hospitality at York College.
There were over 800 people at the award ceremony at ‘The Royal Amouries’ in Leeds and quite dawnting to go and collect the award from Archbishop Sentamu and a representative from Ware and Kay the sponsors. The competiton this year was judged by an indepentant panel of judges – Barbara Woroncow OBE, Chair; Roger Bowers, Deputy Chair and former High Sherriff of West Yorkshire. Angela Hartnett MBE, Michelin Chef. Gervase Phinn, Author; and Peter Charlton, Editor, Yorkshire Post. There were 5 finalists in all in this catorgory.
